I made these photos Saturday Oct. 2 which was Refuge Day at Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge and there were lots of visitors and many enjoyed canoeing around the lake. Fall colors are starting to show in the cypress trees.

I saw 5 alligators but only 3 that were close enough to photograph. There were many great egrets there and a few great blue herons, cormorants and at least a dozen wood storks, the big white birds with gray necks and beaks.

The water in Bluff Lake is very low due to the drought. Normally most of those stumps are below the surface and the roots you see on the closer cypress trees are in the water.
